Herman Kelly & Life were part of the Miami-based TK Records empire, recording for its Alston and Electric Cat subsidiaries during the late '70s. Their 1978 single "Dance to the Drummer's Beat" became a staple of early hip-hop DJs thanks to its funky percussion break, and was sampled heavily in years to come. Kelly & Life's only LP was 1978's Percussion Explosion!, which also featured the 12" single sides "Who's the Funky DJ" and "Do the Handbone." ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
