Get to know Doc Harris

Doc got his first actual on-air job at CFFM-FM in Kamloops at the age of 14. He moved on to Victoria where he did the morning show on CFMS-FM. Fired for a variety of reasons (mainly having to do with his not really being suitable for "The Sound of the Good Life" somehow) he moved over to sister station CKDA and hosted the all night show for two years. Fired again, he took himself to Trail, B.C. for five months. From there he was all over the map, ending up in Toronto at CFTR, which he left in 1973 to take on the afternoon show at Vancouver's leading pop music station, CKLG. After two years of doing the drive show, he was persuaded, somewhat unwillingly, to do LG's morning show.
He stuck with it until 1983, when, having given CKNW's morning show a good run for its money on CKLG, he was approached by NW's FM station, CFMI, to join their ranks (it was said that what they couldn't beat, they bought). That job went on for three years. This could get boring. Let's encapsulate a bit. Doc also worked in the morning at Vancouver's KISS-FM, Rock 1040, CKNW, CFUN, CKNW again, and CISL.

What a strange (and action-packed!) way to spend a career.

Today, Doc is back at Superhits 650 CISL, and "slamming out the Superhits" as well as hosting The Sixties at Six---and infesting it with little-known and amazingly trivial facts about the music of that decade. He says he "feels really good about this. One of the reasons it took four years for me to get back on the air is that quite frankly, the other radio stations didn't seem to be that much fun to work for. This one is. I'm delighted that CISL has given me this opportunity, and I'm mighty glad to be here."
