About the show

American Top 40: The 70s

These are the original shows hosted by Casey during the 70s, complete with all the songs that made Billboard's hallowed Top 40 Chart. Each week's show features a specific countdown week from the 70s, complete with Casey's original narration, fun facts, and those long distance dedications. Plus, all the music in the countdown has been digitally re-mastered for superior sonic quality

Each weekend we relive the 1970's with the original three hour American Top 40 countdown show hosted by the legendary Casey Kasem. The shows are broadcast just as they were from 1970 to 1978 each weekend around the world. Every week we feature a year from that exact week from all those decades ago. The songs that become hits, the ones that tried too and the ones that became one hits wonders are all included.

What makes this show unique? It's on at a time of the weekend tradition to countdown shows. British folks for decades have made a late Sunday afternoon a part of there day to catch up on the week's hottest songs with BBC - the same can be said for this historic piece of radio. The host is also just as unique - Casey Kasem developed his rock-trivia persona from his work as a disc jockey in the early sixties. His radio career actually started in the mid 1950s in Detroit before launching his national show and moving to L.A. Many times, Kasem starts talking after a commercial break or song with, "Ya know..." He is also known by his signature sign-off "Keep your feet on the ground, but keep reaching for the stars." Plus famous letters from around the world are read as well.

Any animation fan will recognize Casey as a voice from the Scooby Doo series. He played Shaggy along with a long list of other notable accomplishments in other cartoons.

Today Kasem is an avid vegan. He has been active in politics for many years, supporting Lebanese-American causes and politicians. Casey is 75 years old!
